4. Aledia Diaz — Orange Is the New Black

When the character first appeared: Aledia was introduced into the show in the very first episode.

Why fans don’t like the character: Orange Is the New Black gives us an insight into women’s prisons and that means there are always going to be a few characters you hate. But this is TV and most characters are supposed to be redeemable in some sort of way. We always like a good redeeming arc, right?

Unfortunately, Aledia doesn’t get that. A main character from the beginning, she is one of the most selfish and manipulative characters you’ll ever meet on the show. And this is one of the reasons so many fans can’t stand her.

A notable reason for the hate is Aledia’s relationship with her daughter, Daya. The two are more like sisters than mother-and-daughter, especially in the very beginning. Aledia is far too immature and reckless in her actions. Through flashbacks, we see her more interested in her materialistic lifestyle. She’s selfish and narcissistic, which would never sit well with fans of the show.

Just as it looked like we could get some development or redeemable qualities for her in season 3, it was all snapped away. Orange Is the New Black showed us how she loved that her children loved her, but that was, once again, just a selfish part of her personality. She never once talked about how much she loved them, especially not after Daya’s initial stages.
