7. Danny Rand — Iron Fist

When the character first appeared: Danny Rand is the lead character from the very first episode.

Why fans don’t like the character: There’s a lot to say about a series when the lead character is one of the most hated. Danny Rand has few redeeming character traits and it’s the side characters that make Iron Fist more interesting. In fact, it’s the poor development and unlikable traits that make this show so difficult to watch — and when this was announced as the first cancellation out of the Marvel shows, it wasn’t all that surprising.

A major problem for Danny is that he has little empathy for others. He’s one of the most selfish protagonists on TV, focused so much on his problems that he forgets there are others out there who are worse off than him.

Then there’s the mix-matched personality for his training. He should have been the most zen Defender and yet, he was one of worst for going off the rails. Never thinking ahead of the game, he routinely caused problems and allowed enemies to get away. There’s also the wrong mixed of the information he does and doesn’t know about the outside world, especially considering he would have spent time in the outside world.

It’s not really the character but the writing for the character that made Danny so hated by some of the fandom — and unlikable for the rest. He was a little bland to lead his own series, and eye-rollingly dumb at times.
