Mike Flanagan will return to the helm for The Haunting of Bly Manor

The director was a huge part of the success of the first season of the show; directing, writing and producing the show (he even edited the first episode) and he will return for the second season.

Netflix announced the news on Twitter when they shared the teaser trailer for The Haunting of Bly Manor.

It has not yet been confirmed what his exact role will be on the second season, but his directorial and writing talents were a key aspect to the critical and commercial success of the first season, so hopes are high that his role remains the same.

Flanagan has a busy schedule, however, as he is now on post-production for Doctor Sleep and has already confirmed to be writing a remake/reboot of the classic 90s slasher film I Know What You Did Last Summer. This might be part of the reason the current release date is 2020, to give Flanagan time to complete these other projects before returning to the show.

The return of Flanagan also suggests to fans that the style and look of the show will remain the same and will probably fit into what we can expect out of the director. Flanagan’s usual signatures include dark, Gothic atmospheres that keep the focus on the characters, their relationships and their reactions to the horror and not the horror itself.
