Grey’s Anatomy focuses on families, babies, and more on this week’s episode!

Grey’s Anatomy dives deep into family in “Blood and Water” leaving each character to face theirs in some capacity or another. The episode begins with Meredith having a dream about her mother in the kitchen with Zola and Maggie, and wakes up in a jolt after her mother whispers something into Zola’s ear. Speaking of family, Levi is figuring out to face his regarding his new relationship with Nico.

While the two are getting busy in the on-call room, Levi’s mother calls and in a panic, he asks Nico to remain completely quiet. If you’re hooking up with someone, being told to “shush” doesn’t exactly feel so great. Apparently, Levi has a lot to handle with his mother but either way, he offends Nico who ends their make-out session abruptly.

After the dream she has about her mother and the revelation that she seems to have passed onto her, Meredith spends the day working on this idea. Meanwhile, DeLuca is dealing with his dad who randomly showed up but seems to be mentally stable. In fact, he’s prepping to reveal a revolutionary idea to the hospital and is hoping to get them on board.

Maggie deals with a lot in this week’s episode of Grey’s Anatomy when during a podcast she reveals that she is the lovechild of Richard Weber and Ellis Grey. It’s hard to remember that not everyone knows this as common knowledge because the interviewers are thrown back by the reveal. Of course, Weber isn’t too thrilled to learn that Maggie slipped up like that.

It’s a bit awkward momentarily between Maggie and Weber when he confesses he’s not proud of cheating on his wife with Ellis Grey. However, Maggie is quick to remind him that this “mistake” resulted in her, and that is something he should be grateful for. Seriously, Maggie is a genius! By the end of the episode, Richard realizes that he’s hurt Maggie and apologizes for not pointing out how thankful he is for her. Too bad Maggie’s adopted dad will hear all about this debacle and be pretty darn hurt.

In a meeting with Alex, DeLuca and Carina’s dad pitches the idea of a “baby in a bag”. Basically, this would allow for premature babies to develop in an external sac. It sounds pretty extreme, but his dad has been conducting trials on animals and has delivered a lamb like this successfully. Sounds pretty cool, right?

DeLuca seems to think so but Carina begs to differ. She feels that their dad isn’t doing well and should not be taking on such a project. However, DeLuca doesn’t care what she thinks and wants to support his dad with his medical breakthrough, and it appears Alex is intrigued as well.

Babies were all the hype on this week’s episode of Grey’s Anatomy as Jo was left facing the reality of having kids in her future after Alex’s mom started giving her future baby presents. Looking to distract herself, she joins Link and Jackson in a gnarly surgery that involved turning an ankle into a knee. The prospect of having a child feels exciting to Jo, but it frightens her the many way things could go wrong. Unfortunately, during her rant, she makes an offensive comment which irks Jackson until she apologizes.

And then there’s Amelia and Owen, the couple on Grey’s Anatomy that may never figure it out. As they talk over the paperwork for Leo’s custody, the lawyer is surprised to learn they aren’t living together. Worried the arrangement will affect Leo and cause future fights, she urges them to get on the same page before signing anything. However, arguments and epiphanies lead Amelia to realize that her relationship with Owen is over now for good. Because of this, she wants to be taken off the paperwork and asks for Owen to have sole custody.

Levi and Nico share a tender moment when they tell each other “I love you” after Levi explains that his mom’s need to worry incessantly is what prevents him from telling her about the two of them. But he loves Nico and wants to appreciate him before his mother gets involved and tries to muck things up. Meanwhile, Jo comes clean about the baby situation to Alex. It’s not that she doesn’t want kids or is afraid that Alex’s mother’s mental illness will get passed down. She’s worried about her genes that she has no idea about so they decide to do a DNA test to learn more.

It turns out that DeLuca’s dad’s “baby in a bag” idea was a go and despite his mental condition, Alex wanted to move forward with it. Here’s to hoping that things don’t go south and that DeLuca’s belief in his father prevails.

We didn’t know what Meredith was working on all episode but by the end of this episode of Grey’s Anatomy, she poses the question, “What if there was a non-invasive way to diagnose diseases as easy as taking a vitamin?” Well, shoot, that would be amazing!
