The premiere of ABC’s Whiskey Cavalier has just dropped and the first episode definitely gave us plenty of reasons to stay tuned. Check out our recap of the pilot below.

While the show may look like a serious crime-drama, ABC’s Whiskey Cavalier seems to have more of a comedic vibe to it. The stakes in this universe are still real but every bombshell is accompanied by a humorous punchline—most notably when Whiskey (Scott Foley) and Frankie (Lauren Cohan) get together.

When Whiskey aka Agent Chase and Frankie first meet, they appear to stumble upon each other by coincidence. Whiskey assumes Frankie aka Agent Trowbridge is just a bar floozie and doesn’t pay any mind to her, but that’s his biggest mistake.

Before Whiskey can realize it, Frankie has him handcuffed to the bar counter. She then runs off after the target they’re both on the hunt for. The target, Edgar Standish (Tyler James Williams), is an NSA Analyst charged with committing treason.

Whiskey, tasked by the FBI, is assigned with bringing in the traitor. Frankie, however, is given the same assignment—but by the CIA. They then find themselves competing to capture a possible security threat.

Once they have him, Frankie and Whiskey fight over the right to take Edgar into custody but can’t come to an agreement. Their debate is eventually interrupted by an actual terrorist who wants the information that Edgar stole. Frankie is shot during an exchange, forcing Whiskey to seek help from his fellow FBI Agent, Ray Prince (Josh Hopkins).

At Ray’s vacation home, Whiskey convinces his colleague to help him unravel the possible conspiracy surrounding Edgar Standish. They sort out a plan to take Edgar in but then Agent Ollerman (Dylan Walsh) shows up. He starts asserting his authority, indicating that he’ll escort Edgar to holding himself.

Ray is fine with the idea but Whiskey notices that Ollerman is acting strangely. He then sees a ring with the word “Caute” on it. The ring stands out because the word “Caute” was texted by one of the terrorists sent to sell a super-contagious virus—a virus that Whiskey was tasked with bringing home.

Whiskey didn’t understand what the word meant until Edgar Standish revealed the possible traitor in their midsts. Agent Chase didn’t want to believe the analyst’s claims but they turned out to hold weight. Agent Ollerman pulls a gun on them, confirming the mole within their organization.

Holding them at gunpoint, Agent Ollerman is prepared to kill everyone in Ray’s cabin. He shoots Ray and then takes aim at Whiskey too. He’s seconds away from pulling the trigger but Frankie saves the day. She uses one of the explosives that Agent Datta (Vir Das) packed in her bag to cause a large distraction.

The sudden explosion surprises Ollerman and gives Whiskey Cavalier a chance to put Agent Ollerman down for good. He and Frankie then successfully escort Edgar back to the New York FBI facility.

Back at the FBI home office, Frankie and Whiskey learn that they’re being partnered up on a task force to deal with possible spies in their organization. The two spies are then joined by their colleagues, Susan Samson (Ana Ortiz), Jai Datta, and Edgar Standish, to begin an adventure together.
