Buckle up Hulkamaniacs, because the 24-inch pythons are coming to your living room! First reported by the Hollywood Reporter, it seems that Hulk Hogan will get the biopic treatment at Netflix.

Marvel’s demi-god Avenger, Thor, portrayed by Chris Hemsworth, will don a new pair of tights and step into the squared circle to depict Hogan in the Hulk Hogan Netflix biopic.

Hemsworth has experience playing real-life figures. In 2013’s Rush, he portrays former Formula 1 racer, James Hunt. Among other roles where he plays a non-fictional character in films like 12 Strong and In the Heart of the Sea.

Behind the scenes, the project will have a number of high profile names attached as producers and consultants. Directing this feature is Todd Phillips, of the Hangover franchise. He is also directing the upcoming Joker starring Joaquin Phoenix. A long-time rival of the World Wrestling Federation (WWF), Eric Bischoff, will produce the film along with Todd Phillips, Hemsworth, Bradley Cooper, and Michael Sugar. Additionally, Terry Gene Bollea aka Hulk Hogan will be a consultant and executive producer.

Which iteration of Hogan will be shown?

The film will focus on the rise of Hogan and will not feature the latest parts of the Hulkster’s life. Most notably the infamous sex-tape and ensuing legal battle, and the fallout of his use of racial slurs in the video. Instead, the early creation of Hulkamania and the subsequent rise of the WWF will be the main feature.

One notable piece lacking in this news is the involvement of World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), formerly the WWF. The organization is known for keeping a tight lip on its history and current affairs until it’s hand is forced. After the release of the tape laced with slurs, the WWE removed Hogan from everything. Its websites, video archive, and even the WWE Hall of Fame. This has since been reversed, but it still begs the questions, how involved will WWE get?

The most recent project delving into the history of the WWE that was also produced by them was the 2018 documentary Andre the Giant, which touted high reviews and a delicate look at its biggest character from the early days. It will be interesting to see if the WWE attaches itself to the project soon to input a few behind the scenes moments in the early days of the Hulkster himself, Hulk Hogan.
