How to Get Away with Murder was back with episode 14 of season 5 and the drama just keeps getting more intense. Here’s what went down.

How to Get Away with Murder season 5 episode 14 aired on Thursday and with how much stuff went down and how many secrets were revealed, it’s is hard to imagine how they will top it with the season finale next week. Last week’s episode ended with the governor telling Annalise that Emmett Crawford was responsible for Nate Sr.’s death.

This week’s episode started off with Annalise and Tegan looking over the evidence against Emmett. It is pretty damning. He called the female guard that was involved in the shooting quite a few times before Nate’s father was shot. But whether they believe it or not, the two women come up with a plan. Annalise will seduce Emmett to try to get information out of him.

Annalise and Emmett

While at first Emmett is reluctant to go out with Annalise because they work together, he eventually decides they should give it a go. They are clearly attracted to each other. Little does he know that Annalise is going to try to get information out of him at the dinner and that Tegan told Annalise that Emmett informed her he will be running for DA. Why would he run for DA if not to hide the evidence that he had a part in Nate Sr.’s death?

As you can probably imagine, the date does not go well. It starts off fine but then Annalise reveals she knows about him wanting to be a DA. That is when all hell breaks loose and the insults fly. Annalise leaves the restaurant and unfortunately, goes home and drinks. But that’s not the end of it.

Emmett ends up storming into her apartment and telling her he did not have Nate Sr. killed. How does he know? He put a bug in Annalise’s office and heard everything Annalise and Tegan talked about in regards to him. Needless to say, Annalise is mad. But before she can throw him out of her apartment, she gets a phone call from Nate. It turns out it is not Emmett who was visiting Nate Sr. after all.

Connor and Oliver in Court

Connor and Oliver also have issues of their own in this week’s episode. Annalise and Bonnie decide that they need to get Oliver’s computer back from the FBI and when Bonnie comes over the their house, she suggests the Oliver should defend himself when they take the case to court. But Connor doesn’t want his husband to face this alone, so he joins him as a co-plaintiff. With him being a third-year law student, it should be a breeze, right?

Not so much. When they are in front of the judge the first time, she almost immediately sides with the FBI. The fact that Agent Telesco was corrupt or that the FBI didn’t need to take Oliver’s entire laptop do nothing to sway her opinion.

With the first plan failing, Oliver comes up with plan B and it’s one of Oliver’s most brilliant ideas yet. Back in front of the same judge, he states that because the warrant for his laptop was signed while the judge was at a wine bar, it could be concluded that she was under the influence when she signed it. He states that it doesn’t necessarily matter whether she was actually drunk or not, it is how it looks publicly.

And the judge, shockingly, agrees! She sides with Oliver’s assessment and orders the FBI to give him back his computer. While there are still plenty of hurdles to jump over in order to save Nate and Bonnie from being charged with murder, this is one less thing they have to worry about.

Cliffhanger

This episode also featured Michaela spending time with Gabriel to make sure he didn’t tell his mother the truth about his whereabouts and Agent Telesco arriving at his door to tell him who killed his father.

Laurel was also featured quite a lot this week. She went to the FBI to inform them about the strange calls she’s been getting and she received a package with her mother’s hair and scalp in it!

The cliffhanger also had to do with Laurel, or more specifically, with her family. When Bonnie receives the video from the prison supervisor, she immediately takes it home and Frank, Nate, and her watch it.

Who they thought was Emmett meeting with Nate Sr. turns out to be Laurel’s brother. What this means exactly is unclear but it appears that Laurel’s family has something to do with Nate’s father’s death. Is it her father working from behind bars? Hopefully, we will find out next week.

What did you think of this week’s How to Get Away with Murder episode? How do you think Laurel’s family is involved? How do you think Gabriel will react if Telesco actually tells him the truth about his father’s death?

You can catch How to Get Away with Murder Thursdays at 10 p.m. on ABC.
