Altered Carbon renewed for season 2 on Netflix

Netflix renewed Altered Carbon for season 2, and Avengers star Anthony Mackie and Simone Missick of Luke Cage joined the cast for the new season.

Altered Carbon is officially coming back for season 2, according to a report from Deadline. Netflix announced the Altered Carbon season 2 renewal in a YouTube video and on social media.

Season 2 is going to be a lot different than the first season when it comes to the cast. Anthony Mackie takes over for Joel Kinnaman as Takashi Kovecs, while only Renée Elise Goldsberry and Chris Conner reprise their roles from the original season. The pair are the only season 2 cast members we know of that starred in the first season.

It’d been a while since we heard anything about Altered Carbon, so this is refreshing news for those who thought the show might have been canceled. Deadline is reporting the second season is currently in production.

Simone Missick, James Saito, Dina Shihabi, and Torben Liebrecht round out the new cast for season 2. For those who don’t recall and are wondering how Mackie is replacing Kinnaman in the lead role, Altered Carbon features “stacks” and “sleeves.” The stacks are basically the human mind and soul that can be removed and put into a new body, known as a sleeve. That’s the very basic description of it.

I have high hopes for the second season of this series. The first season was good, but I think it left something to be desired. Hopefully, the writing team can turn that around a little bit in the new season.

Deadline did not mention when to expect the new season of Altered Carbon. Based on the fact that it’s in production now, I think there’s a good chance we’ll see the new season of the series by the end of the year.
