Netflix original film Roma directed by Alfonso Cuaron won the BAFTA for Best Picture, along with three other 2019 BAFTAs.

Netflix’s Roma racked up a few more award show wins at the British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA). The film won four BAFTAs, including Best Picture, the top honor in British Film, according to a report from Engadget.

Roma also won the award for Best Film Not in the English Language. Roma’s Alfonso Cuaron also won the award for Best Director and Best Cinematography. Yes, he filmed and directed the Netflix hit.

According to the report, Roma is Netflix’s first big success at the BAFTAs, aside from Ava DuVernay’s hit documentary 13TH, which won the award for Best Documentary Feature in 2017. The Ballad of Buster Scruggs was also nominated for a BAFTA in the Costume Design category.

Success at the BAFTAs is not always an indicator of success at the Oscars. Last year, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri won the BAFTA for Best Picture, while Shape of Water won the Oscar for Best Picture. I still think Roma is going to win Best Picture. It was simply the best movie of the year, and just because it’s on Netflix, that should not be held against the film.

If Roma doesn’t win Best Picture, it won’t be the end of the world for Netflix. Cuaron will likely win the award for Best Director, and the film will definitely win the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film. Any way you spin it, Netflix should be leaving the Oscars at the end of February with their first feature film Oscar for Roma.

If you haven’t seen this movie yet, we highly recommend watching the movie on Netflix when you have a chance! It’s definitely worth your time, and it will be one of the big movies come Oscar night.

The Oscars take place on Sunday, Feb. 24, and there will be no host.
