With Starz choosing not to continue with Counterpart, the show is now being shopped around to other networks and streaming platforms. Could it arrive on Netflix?

Counterpart has been canceled by Starz, according to Deadline, and so the search for a new home begins.

Starring J. K. Simmons and Olivia Williams, the spy series is about two worlds, identical until their splitting, being connected by an underground crossing. Howard Silk (Simmons) is swept up into political intrigue as his double comes across in search of a threat which could break the delicate balance of both sides.

In tweets made on February 11, series creator Justin Marks mentions the possibility of MRC, the studio who owns Counterpart, looking for a new home for the show while thanking fans:

It sounds like there is certainly still hope for the show! Counterpart would be a great fit on Netflix, as it’s highly addictive and would serve binge fans an incredible season of spy intrigue and fantastic acting.

The show takes place in Berlin, Germany, and could really deliver a larger international audience while also providing a large prestige drama with big mysteries and rewarding characters.

J. K. Simmons’ performance is mesmerizing, playing the same character who has completely changed in the time since the worlds split. One is meek and unassuming while the other is a hardened killer. When they meet, it’s shocking how great Simmons can differentiate the two.

Olivia Williams, as well, is astounding in the show as his wife Emily. She is determined and such a powerful character, rivaling and even surpassing Simmons in a lot of key moments.

The writing is captivating and exciting, and it would benefit from being in a season drop rather than weekly like before on Starz. If the show were to continue on Netflix, it would be one of the platform’s most premier shows, a huge benefit to its current line-up. Let’s hope it happens!
