How to Get Away with Murder season 5 episode 12 aired Thursday and it was one of the most tension-filled episodes this season. Here’s what happened.
How to Get Away with Murder was back with episode 12 of season 5 and it was very much an on-the-edge-of-your-seat episode. There was not a minute that wasn’t filled with tension or drama. It all started where last week left off. Gabriel was arrested and now Annalise is there to try to figure out what it going on.
The first thing she wants to know when she sees him is how she doesn’t know he is working with the FBI. When he convinces her enough that he isn’t, she asks what they wanted to know from him. Did they want to know about her or about Sam? He says no but that they did want to know whether DA Miller was at the wedding.
When Annalise is just about to leave him high and dry, Gabriel tells her that he was talking to Miller before he went missing and that he was helping the DA look into Annalise. It appears that Miller was always looking into her, taking up where is predecessor left off. And Gabriel says the only reason he got involved was to find out more about his dad.
Gabriel on Trial
Once Annalise takes up his case, they head to his hearing and it turns out Gabriel is being charged with domestic terrorism! The FBI states that because he participated in the protests in Ferguson, Missouri and threw a chemical agent at the police (they have a picture), he is being charged with terrorism. Annalise pleads his case but the judge still sets bail a one million dollars.
Annalise and her team go into hyper drive after that. She makes Gabriel give her all his passwords so they can find whatever the other side says they have against him. But when they can’t find anything to use to help fight his case, they use the last thing anyone would expect. The tapes from the camera they hid in his house.
When Annalise shows the video in court, Gabriel is more than a little surprised. But since the video also shows a FBI agent planting evidence in his apartment, it’s what also sets him free.
But the FBI don’t let him go so easily. He meets with them again but this time he tells them what Annalise told him to. He talks about Miller digging up Annalise’s adoption papers when she was trying to adopt Wes but then states that he also heard Miller talking about the papers with a woman named Lynne aka the governor. And remember: Annalise and Nate are trying to get the FBI to believe that the governor had Miller killed, so now they have Gabriel doing their work for them.
Miller’s Body Found
Nate, Bonnie, Annalise, and Frank are working tirelessly to find some connection between DA Miller and the governor. It isn’t until Frank gets the call logs for Miller’s burner phone that they find out that Miller was in contact with the adoption agency. While this proves that Miller and Governor Birkhead were speaking, it also connects Annalise with Wes aka the guy that killed Sam.
By the looks on Bonnie, Nate, and Frank’s faces, they want to give the information over and that’s when Annalise blows up. She is not the one killing people. She is just the one they call to clean up their messes. But somehow between then and when Gabriel talks to the FBI, they come up with a different idea to use Gabriel to throw the governor under the bus.
This is also the episode where Nate finally reveals to the public that Miller was dead and not just missing. He does this via anonymous tip, of course. It is all over the news and shakes everyone who didn’t already know.
Bonnie Tortures Herself (Again)
Bonnie is a master at punishing herself when she thinks she deserves it and there is not a better example of that than that she keeps talking to and visiting DA Miller’s mom during this episode. She goes over to her house and looks at pictures of Miller and pretends they were still on good terms. She even talks to his mom about planning a vigil for him.
But the ultimate example of Bonnie punishing herself in this episode is when the news breaks that Miller is dead and that his body has been found. His mother almost immediately calls Bonnie and of course, she answers the phone and listens as the woman sobs and screams for her dead son. It is a tough scene to watch.
Cliffhanger
The episode also featured Annalise and the Keating 5 blackmailing Tegan into not talking to the FBI, Micaela finding out Gabriel told his mom about her, and Emmett Crawford becoming suspicious of Annalise and asking to have access to her emails.
The cliffhanger from this week’s episode was insane. Asher gets an alert on his phone that someone tagged him in a picture on Instagram. As it turns out, Connor’s mom posted a picture of Asher and her at the wedding and guess who’s in the background? Nate and DA Miller!! *screams*
Only time will tell if the FBI finds the photo before they have it deleted from her account.
What did you think of this week’s episode? Do you think this is the time they actually get caught? Or will more people end up dead to cover it all up?
How to Get Away with Murder airs Thursday at 10 pm on ABC.
