With less than a month left until the premiere, Freeform released the much-anticipated trailer for Shadowhunters’ final 12 episodes. Keep reading for our analysis of what we learned from the new footage.

Shadowhunters fans can rejoice now that there’s an official trailer for the second half of Season 3. With multiple cliffhangers at the end of Season 3, Episode 10, the desire for an in-depth look at the final episodes (barring watching all of them) has only grown since the show’s cancellation. Luckily for the fans, the trailer does seem to offer a sampling of the whole half season, rather than just the first few episodes.

One of the biggest developments we see in the trailer is Jonathan’s resurrection, and as he says, it “brought back [his] real face.” Of course, the news of Luke Baines casting has been around since July. The new trailer, however, offers us our first look at him in action.

From the look of it, Jonathan’s main goal is corrupting Clary (Katherine McNamara), which is consistent with Will Tudor’s portrayal. Though the demonic wings are a new feature that’s never been seen.

What remains to be seen is if Jace (Dominic Sherwood) will find Clary in time—before she goes fully dark. In City of Lost Souls—which a solid chunk of 3B is based on—Jace is the one who goes missing. That then forces Clary to search for him and eventually join Jonathan to keep an eye on Jace—who has become a sort of dark parabatai to Jonathan.

Now, with Clary’s eyes going demon black by the end of the trailer, it’s very likely that she’ll take Jace’s place from the book storyline. Her proximity to Jonathan and her worry over the darkness growing inside her point towards this conclusion.

Though the search for Clary promises to be a huge factor in these final episodes, the rest of the characters seem to have other problems as well. We already know that Luke (Isaiah Mustafa) will be teaming up with Jace to search for Clary, and it seems as though he’ll be handing his Alpha title over to Maia (Alisha Wainwright). Perhaps looking for Clary means less time to prioritize the pack—they were already pretty upset about that in the first half of season three.

There’s also his potential romance with Mayrse (Nicola Correia-Damude) growing. He could also be passing his title to Maia to live a more settled and mundane life, perhaps with Mayrse in mind as well.

Speaking of Maia—who left in the first halfs—she finally confronted her abusive ex-boyfriend Jordan (Chai Hansen) and it seems like her relationship with Simon (Alberto Rosende) might be completely finished.

As book fans know, Simon spends a good deal of the final three novels two-timing Maia and Isabelle (Emeraude Toubia). The show side-steps this love triangle angle(that doesn’t reflect well on Simon’s character at all), but there’s still one book canon couple that hasn’t made it to the screen yet: Sizzy. It’s anyone’s guess as to how Maia and Simon split up, but, hopefully, it’s before those scenes in the trailer that point towards a kiss between Simon and Izzy.

Of course, no Shadowhunters trailer would be complete without everyone’s favorite couple, Malec. It certainly seems like big things are going to be happening with Alec (Matthew Daddario) and Magnus (Harry Shum Jr.)—not only do we catch a glimpse of the much-hyped training and dance scenes that have left fans swooning, but we also see Brother Zachariah pronouncing someone as “one.” Could it be of the much-rumored, though not officially confirmed, Malec wedding? Unfortunately, despite all the bliss, some angsty moments are headed Malec’s way, too.

One such moment shows Magnus on the ground, shaking as Alec tries to save him. There’s also another shot of Magnus unconscious, being healed by someone. Since we’re not sure he’ll be getting his magic back, there are much bigger risks now that our favorite warlock is mortal. One of the direst is the wrath of his father, Asmodeus (Jack Yang).

A few scenes from the trailer show Alec and Izzy in the tell-tale red lighting of Edom, which points to one of the biggest plot points from City of Heavenly Fire playing out in the last episodes. One shot of the whole gang shows a crying Alec, perhaps bargaining for Magnus’ life with Asmodeus?

While it’s certainly a bittersweet occasion, to be celebrating the ending of a beloved show, Shadowhunters fans have a lot to look forward to in the coming months. With this first in-depth look at the final episodes, it seems as though the showrunners will make the fandom proud.
