Netflix binges: The Punisher season 2 recap
The Punisher season 2, episode 6: “Nakazat”
Now that almost all the characters in this season of The Punisher are in New York City, things are really starting to heat up (like it wasn’t already crazy already). Episode 5 of The Punisher season 2 brought plenty of killing and in a strange turn of events, Frank killed no one. But don’t worry, he beat the crap out of plenty of people.
This episode starts off with Amy and Frank waiting outside a door, debating the best way to get in. Frank wants to kick it down but Amy is skeptical since the door is made of pure metal. As it turns out, scamming their way in works much better. But when Frank sees that the guy allows people to take pictures of little girls inside his studio, he beats the crap out of him.
Amy just ignores what’s happening and accomplishes what they are there to do: develop the photos she’s been carrying since the beginning. When she’s done, she doesn’t let Frank kill the guy, but she does let him burn the place down. It’s all about compromises.
The Photos
When Frank and Amy see the photos, they aren’t sure what they mean. They show two boys kissing. But when Frank meets with Poloznev, all the pieces move into place. The Schultz family, the ones who have sent John Pilgrim on these killing missions, have been grooming their son to be the next president.
But with them being uber-religious, having a gay son throws a wrench in that plan, especially since they have been hiding it this whole time. That’s what the pictures show. It is their son kissing another boy. That’s what Amy has been holding this whole time. John Pilgrim killed all of Amy’s friends because of those pictures.
Why do the Russians want them? They want to own the presidency (sound familiar??) and with those pictures, they could own the Schultz’s.
Billy Russo and Friends
Billy is not alone in his trouble making this episode. He is now friends with a group of fellow veterans. Billy continues to meet Jake from episode 4, but Jake bring his friends along this time. They all know each other from Curtis’s vet meetings.
How do they get into trouble? Pretty easily. One of the guys is living out of his car but when he goes outside, he realizes it is about to be towed away. He runs back into the bar and tells his friends (including Billy) and they come up with a plan.
Billy and the gang run up on the tow truck (Billy is wearing his mask from the hospital), pull the guy from the driver’s seat and throw him to the ground. Billy beats the crap out of him to the point that the other guys have to pull him off.
Once the guy gets his car back, he drives away. The rest of the guys figure they should do this again but for bigger stakes. They should rob banks, hit up drug dealers, and break into any business they want.
This is most likely leading to Billy having a crew of guys, all wearing a mask similar to his, going all over the city wreaking havoc. Billy Russo may not remember what happened to him, but he still has those same unsavory instincts.
Billy and The Doctor
But that wasn’t all Billy did during this episode. He also had a couple of confrontations with his doctor. She doesn’t like that he’s leaving the house. He could be caught at any time and she could get in trouble as well.
So, Billy stays inside but only for a while. He begins going through her files and soon finds his. That is where he gets his old mask from. He reads her notes about him and doesn’t exactly like what he reads.
She is comparing him to someone but when he confronts her, she won’t tell him who that is. He points out how pristine her house is and how she doesn’t seem to have a life. He asks “Who are you trying to control? You? Or me? She doesn’t like that and ends up slapping him.
Billy ends up attacking her and even when she stabs him with a pen (ouch!), he doesn’t let go of the hold he has on her neck. But something switches within him because the scene ends with him kissing her. It remains to be seen how she responds.
Curtis
Curtis was also featured in this episode. With the guys he helps hanging out with Billy, it would hard for him not to be involved. But Billy also happens to pay Curtis a visit. In a parking garage, because they can’t meet anywhere that’s not scary.
Billy tells him that although he doesn’t remember it, he’s sorry for shooting Curtis. Curtis just wants to see Billy turn himself in.
Billy then asks Curtis the question he has been struggling with since the beginning of the season. Who did this to him? Curtis is not about to give up Frank so he says he can’t tell him and shockingly, Billy walks away.
Curtis also gets Frank and Madani together in this episode. He tells them he found Billy and that he’s hanging out with some of the guys in his group. Madani talks about taking him down but both Frank and Curtis disagree. Billy has to be killed; he can’t be put behind bars. He is too dangerous. And Frank has to be the one to do it.
What’s Next
This episode was chock-filled with new insights and new developments. It also featured John Pilgrim and Madani meeting, Frank and Amy having multiple heart-to-hearts about his deceased daughter, and Pilgrim ultimately shooting Poloznev.
The next episodes are sure to include Billy and his crew getting into plenty of trouble, Frank and Amy continuing to work to get John Pilgrim and Madani doing the same, and Billy’s doctor diving deeper into the chaotic world that is Billy’s life.
What did you think of episode 6 of The Punisher’s second season? What do you think will happen between Billy and his doctor? Do you think Curtis will make it through the season alive?
