The Punisher season 2, episode 4: “Scar Tissue”

While there was plenty of blood in this episode of The Punisher season 2, it was also much calmer than the last three preceding it. Billy is running loose through the city, raising havoc, and visiting people from his childhood that he can still remember. The episode starts off with Billy riding the bus. A fellow passenger begins harassing him for the way his face looks (yes, there is finally a shot of his face) and his lack of footwear.

The dude clearly doesn’t know who he’s messing with. Although Billy doesn’t respond on the bus, he does follow the guy down an alleyway. The audience doesn’t see what happens but the next time we see Billy, he is wearing the guy’s clothes. You can make your assumptions about what happened.

Billy on the Run

Now that he’s free, it becomes Billy’s mission to take out revenge on the people who hurt him during his childhood. So far, he is still claiming his lack of memories and based on his actions, that seems to be true. His first stop on his vendetta tour is to Arthur, a man who used to work at the group home where Billy lived. Arthur came on to Billy and several of the kids at the group home and young Billy fought back by beating him with his stickball bat.

But now Billy has found him and broke into his house. At first, you might think nothing is going to happen, but then Arthur has to bring up what he did to Billy’s fellow housemates. Needless to say, Billy loses it and when Agent Madani finds the body, there is a stick coming out of Arthur’s chest.

Billy’s next stop is to his doctor’s home. He is still covered in Arthur’s blood when she opens the door but despite that, she lets him in. He cleans himself up and when he comes out, she has a phone in her hands. He tells her he wouldn’t blame her for making the call, but that he wants to be the best version of himself he can be and he was hoping she would help him with that. Only time will tell.

Amy’s Past

This episode also finally got Rachel to tell Frank her real name; it’s Amy. She also finally tells him why she is being chased and why she is so scared all the time (beyond the fact that Frank keeps killing everyone around her).

After they leave Ohio, Agent Madani takes them to her apartment. They are able to relax for a little bit and get cleaned up. During this time, Rachel sleeps in Madani’s bed but soon realizes she is more comfortable sleeping under the bed and that’s when the nightmares hit her. Frank hears her crying and when he gets back from meeting with his friend, Curtis, he gets her to talk.

Apparently, she was part of a group that was run by a woman named Fiona. She had them run a job where they were catering a funeral and she wanted them to take pictures of some of the men there. Cut to Amy coming back to the hotel room to see all her friends have been brutally murdered. She then must hide under the bed because John Pilgrim is in the room.

What’s Next

This episode also featured the origin story for Billy’s mask (it was part of a therapy exercise) , Rachel figuring out exactly who Frank is and that his whole family is dead, and Frank visiting his friend Curtis to try to figure out what is going on with Billy and how it has to end. It’s clear that there are going to be two standoffs. One between Frank and Billy (and maybe Madani) and another between John Pilgrim, Frank, and Amy. It’s anyone’s guess what the final result will be.

What did you think of episode 4 of The Punisher season 2? What do you think will happen between Billy and his doctor? Any theories on what will happen next?
