The Punisher season 2, episode 3 recap: “Trouble the Water”

Episode 3 of the second season of The Punisher brought another great gunfight along with Billy Russo’s escape. Here’s what went down:

So far, it seems like each episode of season 2 of The Punisher is trying to outdo itself on the level of fighting and violence and that is not a bad thing in this case. Each fight has furthered the story and been incredibly entertaining to watch and that was no different in episode 3.

This episode started out with a bit of back story about the current villain, John Pilgrim. It’s been clear from the start that he’s a religious man but that was finally proven as he was shown in a church listening to a reverend preach. After church, he is approached by a fellow member of the congregation.

Apparently, it is John’s job to ‘deal” with sin and despite his wife being sick and them having two kids, he goes on the road to “deal” with people. As the next scene is him waiting outside the police station where Frank and Rachel are, you can probably guess what that means.

Police Station Battle

Frank, Rachel, and Marlena are still stuck in the Ohio police station but the police are the last people they need to worry about. John Pilgrim and his group of trained killers are waiting outside and ready to attack. They want the sheriff to hand over Frank, Rachel, and Marlena, but he is having none of that. He intends to stand and fight despite Frank’s continuous warnings that he doesn’t know who he’s up against.

He soon finds out when he sends one of his deputies to run out to a car to try to go find some help. The deputy is almost immediately shot and they have to drag him back inside the building to help save his life.

And that’s when the real battle begins. Once everyone is inside the station, the gunfire starts and there is A LOT of it. The only thing that saves them is Frank uncuffing himself and grabbing a gun. He shoots off some rounds that kill enough bad guys that John Pilgrim calls off his people. But only for a little bit. They did manage to get Marlena back but Pilgrim doesn’t trust her anymore and strangles her to death.

The second round of gunfire starts soon after that with the addition of some Molotov cocktails. But now Frank is fear to roam, he is in his element. He shoots the bottles of fire before they can be launched and burn up the men throwing them. He then makes his way into the forest surrounding the station and kills every. single. person except for Pilgrim. Agent Madani shows up in a helicopter, giving Pilgrim the chance to get away.

Billy Russo on the Loose-o

Billy’s anger has gotten even worse and while his doctor is doing all that she can to get him through his nightmares, he is not in the right mindset to take the advice. Instead, he gets so enrages that he beats the crap out of two guards and then takes his doctor hostage to help him escapes. For the first time this season, he takes off his mask but his face stays hidden.

Needless to say, Agent Madani is…pissed. While his doctor thinks the anger is from not being able to remember what happened to him and his lack of sleep, Madani thinks he has been lying this whole time. His release is what ultimately makes her call Frank. She needs someone that knows Billy as well as she does and Frank is that person. Next stop for them: New York City

What’s Next

Agent Madani and Frank are on their way to NYC but they are not alone. Frank demanded that Rachel come with him.  She still has secrets and the biggest one is why all these people are after her. And with John Pilgrim still alive, her life is still in danger.

What did you think of episode 3 of the second season of The Punisher? Have any theories about what Rachel is hiding? What are your thoughts on Billy’s lack of memory? Real or fake?
