Locke & Key is heading to Netflix and the show just announced Scandal’s Darby Stanchfield will star in the Netflix original.

Darby Stanchfield, best known for her work on Scandal, is the latest actress to join the cast for Locke & Key. Other recent casting announcements include Sherri Saum, Griffin Gluck and Steven Williams. While there was a pilot filmed for Hulu already, Netflix hopped on the chance to pick up the series when Hulu passed on it.

With the recent casting announcements, things are shaping up for the series. According to Deadline, Darby Stanchfield will play the role of Nina Locke, the single mother who moves her family to Keyhouse.

These recent announcements have motivated me to return to the comic book series, which consists of seven collected trades. Having only read the first, I have my work cut out for me. However, I did really enjoy the first six issues of the series and it gives me something to look forward to with the upcoming series.

What is Locke & Key about?

Locke & Key focuses on Kinsey, Tyler and Bode, the three siblings who make the cross-country move with their mother. Their father’s death was a gruesome one and there are some unanswered questions surrounding it.

When the family arrives at Keyhouse, the kids find out that there are certain keys that give them powers. What they soon find out, is that a demon also wants those keys. It’s a fun horror-fantasy story that seems fitting for Netflix to pick up.

While some horror projects are hit-or-miss on Netflix, I’m pretty confident that I’ll enjoy this one, especially given the fact that Joe Hill remains involved with it. He learned from his father, Stephen King, and his stories are just as entertaining.

Locke & Key doesn’t have a release date just yet since the project is still in some of the early stages, but we’ll keep an eye out for more news about it. Are you looking forward to this as much as I am?
