The Punisher is one of the last shows standing in Marvel’s Netflix universe. Iron Fist, Luke Cage and Daredevil have all been canceled. The show’s newly released second season gives us a chance to see Frank Castle in action again.

Of all of the character to adapt, Frank Castle is the easily one of the most brutal. The character first made his appearance in The Amazing Spider-Man No. 129 in February 1974. While his design has changed and been updated over the years, his methods remain the same. Jon Bernthal really embodies every bit of him in his portrayal for the show, too.

Billy Russo was never the only villain in the show and that continues with the second season. He’s different, but in some ways still the same. For me, while some moments didn’t hit quite as well as I was hoping they would, it was often some of the smaller moments that left an impression on me.

A show about the Punisher wouldn’t be complete without insanely big fight scenes, either. He’s trained in hand-to-hand combat and we all know he can shoot given his weapons of choice. Despite expecting these big fights, they still manage to surprise and entertain.

Even with the amount of brutality dished out by Frank Castle, the show finds moments of humanity with its characters and puts them on display. The best moments of this show mix those moments with the fight scenes and give us a glimpse into what the show accomplished along the way.
