The CW announced that a Riverdale spin-off is in the works titled Katy Keene, and, yes, it’s a musical.

Riverdale is one of the most popular shows on the CW, so it is only natural that the network would decide to make a spin-off of the cheesy – in a good way – teen drama.

According to Variety, The CW announced the Riverdale spin-off in the works and titled Katy Keene would follow four Archie Comics characters as they tried to make it big in New York City. And, yes, it looks like it is going to be a musical.

While this is great news for fans of the series, it really feels like the CW saw what a massive opportunity they missed by sending a potential Riverdale spin-off in The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina to Netflix and are trying to expand the Archieverse and rectify that mistake.

In fact, there are already Riverdale easter eggs in the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, and the current plotline on Riverdale would fit in perfectly with the creepy mysticism of CAS.

It’s a shame that the network passed on the series but they did, and Katy Keene will be a decent shot at trying to expand the world of Archie Comics — maybe the Archie Comics Universe? — on the CW.

Remember, this worked extremely well with the Arrowverse, and the desire for more series like Riverdale is clearly there. Katy Keene could be the key to unlocking more series connected to Riverdale, and we could start seeing similar series appear on the network and then end up on Netflix rather than being Netflix Originals.

Hopefully, Katy Keene is a sign the CW  knows they made a mistake with CAS, and they won’t make the mistake of passing on the next one.

There is also a very good chance Katy Keane will end up on Netflix like all the other CW shows after their seasons end.
