Fox’s The Gifted: Will the Inner Circle recruit more mutants?

The Stepford Cuckoos have taken a back seat for the past few episodes of the show but that is about to change in episode twelve of Fox’s The Gifted Season Two. Which mutant have they got their eyes on as a possible new recruit for the Inner Circle?

The Inner Circle’s numbers were bolstered in episode eleven of Fox’s The Gifted season two, currently streaming on Hulu, when Reeva Payge (Grace Byers) welcomed newly-freed mutants into the fold. But it seems the Inner Circle isn’t done with their recruitment drive yet.

The promo trailer for episode twelve, “hoMe”, sees the Stepford Cuckoos (Skyler Samuels) gunning for Lauren Strucker (Natalie Alyn Lind), who has recently become much more powerful. The Inner Circle already boasts one Strucker among their ranks — Lauren’s younger brother, Andy (Percy Hynes White) — who has been a massive asset for the mutant organization. If Lauren were to join the Inner Circle, they would be nigh unstoppable.

Thus far on The Gifted, Lauren has been dead-set against the Inner Circle, especially as they have corrupted her brother. But with the Fenris connection between Lauren and Andy growing, she may find herself drawn to the financial and ideological philosophies of the Inner Circle.

Even if Lauren isn’t interested in joining them, few mutants have gone up against the Cuckoos and won. Each one of the Frost sisters has powerful telepathic abilities, but together, they are an unstoppable force. Only Marcos Diaz (Sean Teale), has been able to fight their mind-control, early in this season of The Gifted, and that was only because he was driven by desperation to save his daughter.

Despite Lauren’s strength, this may be too much to ask of her. With Lauren’s mother Kate (Amy Acker) pushing for her to become more powerful so she can save her brother, and her father Reed (Stephen Moyer) doubting her motivations, Lauren may feel trapped into a corner and take the Cuckoos up on their offer.

And it seems that Lauren may have little choice in the matter, after all. The Cuckoos clearly proclaim that if Lauren doesn’t join them, she will die. The Inner Circle have not been afraid to leave a trail of blood behind them. Will Lauren be their latest victim or their newest asset? We find out next week on The Gifted.
