Watch the trailer for Netflix’s Velvet Buzzsaw starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Toni Collette. Velvet Buzzsaw premieres on Feb. 1, 2019.

Netflix shared the trailer for Velvet Buzzsaw, a new Netflix original film starring Jake Gyllenhaal and directed by Dan Gilroy.

Velvet Buzzsaw, arriving on Netflix on Feb. 1, is Gilroy’s new follow-up to the great Nightcrawler, and delivers Gyllenhaal, Rene Russo and Toni Collette into a world of superficial appreciation, looking for the buck in art. But as with Gilroy’s past film, it takes on a whole other life as the psychological and potentially supernatural aspects of newly unearthed paintings and a string of murders terrorizes the art scene.

Check out the trailer below.

With an exceptional cast and Gilroy’s excellent direction, the movie is sure to be a fascinating thriller. The turn toward horror in the second half of the trailer as the psychological side of the story takes into effect is a huge surprise, really setting up a movie potentially full of shock and awe.

The Netflix description is short and to the point, keeping back the true nature of the movie the trailer dives into. From their Netflix media site,

"Velvet Buzzsaw is a thriller set in the contemporary art world scene of Los Angeles, where big money artists and mega-collectors pay a high price when art collides with commerce."

Nightcrawler was a huge surprise when it released in 2014, and Gilroy since has written and directed Roman J. Israel, Esq. starring Denzel Washington. Velvet Buzzsaw looks to be of similar dark and character-driven style and flair as his 2014 film. His pairing with Gyllenhaal before produced a mesmerizing movie, let’s hope this one is similar!

Gyllenhaal is in for a big year, with this movie and playing Mysterio in the upcoming Spider-Man sequel, Spider-Man: Far From Home.

The movie will be premiering at the Sundance Film Festival on Jan. 27 before its official release on Netflix four days later.
