By the end of season 2, our cluster has just about had it with Whispers. Wolfgang has been kidnapped by Whispers, Lila is simpering and gloating, and Whispers seems to have the upper hand again.

The last 20 minutes of the season 2 finale showed Will turning the tables on Whispers and Jonas, and while we were stressed over Wolfgang’s MIA status, Will’s talk of war re-energized the cluster – and the audience.

Unlike other hour-long dramas, or science fiction series, Sense8 doesn’t lose its nerve. The writing will take the characters into uncomfortable, uncharted territory (that electrocution scene, or that hanging scene, or the orgy sequences) and the episodes to follow show the consequences.

Will promising Whispers a war wasn’t an empty threat. When we see the cluster huddled in the back of that van with an unconscious Jonas and Whispers, we know from experience that Will isn’t exaggerating when he promises a war to come.

Except for the fact, the show was canceled shortly after season 2 was released. Let’s pretend we live in a world where we have confirmation there will be a season 3: a third season would most likely expand the world of the cluster even further with more sensates, more tentacles of BPO around the world, and a high stakes game of swapping prisoners. In this pretend season 3, the war is very real and far-reaching.
