24. “Just turn the wheel and the future changes.”
Wolfgang not only embraced his destiny, he ran straight to it with his arms wide open. Wolfgang spent the first part of season 1 biding his time and masterminding a diamond heist that would make everyone in the Bogdanow family take notice. The son of a cruel alcoholic, Wolfgang wanted nothing to do with his father’s family, but he was determined to beat them at their own game.
When Felix became collateral damage, Wolfgang set out to exact revenge. Unlike most brooding heroes, Wolfgang wasn’t looking to walk away from the fight. To atone for what happened to his best friend, Wolfgang set off on a fool’s mission.
As Wolfgang approaches his uncle’s mansion, he’s joined by his conscience: Kala. Kala begs Wolfgang to think this through and to not drive through the gates. Wolfgang refuses to be swayed, and when he tells Kala how hopeless it is to try to change what comes next, Kala proves him wrong with a simple plea.
We appreciate the faith Kala shows in Wolfgang. Her endless compliments and faith still can’t crack Wolfgang’s distorted view of himself, but she tries because she loves him. We love this quote because of the hope it represents in Wolfgang’s bleak life.
