After watching our cluster members struggle throughout season 1 against Whispers’ efforts to destroy them, there was a lot of expectation for season 2 to show us something different. When we see a strung out Will using drugs in the Christmas special it seems like Whispers once again has the upper hand. What was surprising to see was the carefully thought out plan to trick Whispers and glean more information from him.

It turns out Will’s drug use is a calculated move on the part of the cluster. Using drugs to keep Whispers out of his mind, it’s not until the second episode of the season (or first episode, depending on if you count the Christmas special) that we see the plan put into action: Will visits Whispers while Nomi hacks into computer systems. Whispers is caught off guard when he notices Will during an important BPO meeting and quickly hightails it out of there.

On the way out the door, Will grabs Whispers and tells him he and his cluster are coming after him. It’s an adrenaline rush that’s much needed and promises a forthcoming sensate war and fight for survival. It’s nice to see the cluster win one after Will’s eye contact mistake at the end of season 1. This quote also was Will’s resurgence after spending months hiding. While season 2 is fraught with conflicts from every side, this moment of defiance is fun and promises more to come.
