15. The West Wing

Want a political show that isn’t so close to home? How about we go back a couple years to Aaron Sorkin’s The West Wing. This is a completely different show than House of Cards. Instead of focusing on the President, the show focuses on the White House staff who works in the West Wing.

The show follows the senior white house staff: Josh Lyman, Sam Seaborn, Toby Ziegler, CJ Cregg and Leo McGarry. The president, played by Martin Sheen, Josiah “Jed” Bartlet, is a reminder that presidencies weren’t always about scandals. It takes us through the day to day problems and occurrences in the White House, coined with Sorkin’s famous dry and sarcastic humor.

This show is proof that great characters and good plotlines and writing are all you need to make a successful show. With seven seasons, it covers 7 years of Jed Bartlett’s time in office. Through thick and thin, this staff stays together to help their president and the people they work for.

All of Aaron Sorkin’s shows are easy to get sucked into, but The West Wing is the easiest of his shows to sit back and watch and enjoy. With 153 episodes covering some of the rockiest, yet fictional to a certain extent, times in recent US history, The West Wing one of the best shows on Netflix.
