1. The Executive Producer of the show is the one and only, Selena Gomez.

Selena was supposed to star as the lead, Hannah, in the film adaptation of the novel, but when idea fell through so did her job. Instead of letting it get her down, Gomez stepped up to the plate and took on the role of executive producer for the show.

On CNN, Gomez admitted that the book hit “a little close to home.” When the show started to shoot, she was dealing with a difficult, private situation. With a history of anxiety, depression, and panic attacks, Gomez was no stranger to the situations these characters were living in.

CNN also quoted her in saying:

"“They have to see something that’s going to shake them. They have to see something that’s frightening … I want them to understand it … I would do anything to have a good influence on this generation.”"
