12. George Clooney and Noah Wyle

Dr. Mitchell, Dr. Rosen – “The One with Two Parts” – S1E17

From the mid-1990s to the early 2000s, NBC had a few hit shows on its hands that were part of the Thursday night “Must See TV” lineup. One of them was Friends and the another was the medical drama ER. George Clooney and Noah Wyle, as Dr. Doug Ross and Dr. John Carter were two of ER’s biggest stars. So it made sense to have them make a surprise guest appearance on Friends.

When Clooney and Wyle showed up as ER doctors on Friends, however, they weren’t there as Dr. Ross and Dr. Carter. Instead, Clooney played Dr. Michael Mitchell and Wyle played his friend, Dr. Jeffrey Rosen. The two handsome doctors meet Rachel and Monica while they’re on duty in the emergency room where Rachel is being treated for an injury. Because Rachel doesn’t have insurance, she assumes Monica’s identity so that she can avoid an expensive medical bill.

Unfortunately, their little scheme turns out to be a big hassle after the two women agree to a double date with the doctors. In order to avoid being caught committing insurance fraud, Monica and Rachel have to continue being one another throughout the evening. After a few slip-ups, the women turn on each other and scare the doctors away.

After ER ended, Clooney went on to acting in and writing movies, winning Oscars for films like Syriana and Argo and a Golden Globe for The Descendants. Wyle focused on television, appearing in sci-fi series like Falling Skies and The Librarians.
