In the final season of Friends, Monica and Chandler decide that they don’t want to raise children in the city. After putting in an offer on a house, they walk over to the house next door which also happens to be on the market. Jane Lynch, playing a real estate agent, opens the door and agrees to let them have a look around.

“I’m showing it to someone else right now,” she tells them, “but, please, look around.” The someone else, as Chandler’s rotten luck would have it, is his annoyingly nasal ex-girlfriend, Janice. After finding out that the Bings are buying the house next door, Janice insists on buying the house. Chandler pretends to still have strong feelings for Janice, hoping that the potential awkwardness and risk of an inevitable affair will make Janice change her mind.

Her brief stint as Ellen the real estate agent isn’t Jane Lynch’s only connection to Friends. Rumors circulated for years that she had auditioned for the role of Phoebe. During an interview on HuffPost live in January 2015, Lynch put the rumors to rest. “…I would have loved that audition, at that time in my life I wasn’t getting that level of audition, that’s for sure!” Lynch spent several years playing Sue Sylvester on Glee and won an Emmy for her job hosting Hollywood Game Night.
