Stranger Things Season 2: Will Netflix renew the series?

We take a closer look at the possibility of Stranger Things Season 2 and if Netflix will renew the series.

After a few reports that Netflix had already renewed Stranger Things for a second season, we wanted let our viewers know that Netflix has not renewed Stranger Things for a second season.

Having said that, we also wanted to share our thoughts about Stranger Things Season 2 and if Netflix will renew the series for a seconds season.

There are some unintended spoilers ahead. No spoilers are plot specific, but we are discussing what has been reported in the media about the possibility of Stranger Things Season 2. Proceed at your own risk!

According to an interview and report from SpoilerTV, Matthew Modine, one of the stars of Stranger Things, mentioned the series had been renewed for second season. Netflix denied those reports.

According to an IGN interview with Matt and Ross Duffer, the creators of the series gave some insight into a second season of the series, which bodes well for the second season. Here is Matt’s full quote about Stranger Things Season 2 from the IGN interview: 

"“We wanted to do a couple things with this season. We didn’t want to do The Killing thing. We wanted it to resolve that main thing of Will going missing in the first season. So in that sense, it is like an eight-hour movie. Now, we don’t answer all the questions by the end of the season – there are definitely some dangling threads. The hope is that it feels satisfying but that we left room and that if people respond to it we can go back into this world. But if we do get to go back, it’s not a second season as much as a sequel.”"

That’s about as blatant as saying there will be a second season, right? Obviously, Netflix has to agree with the Duffer brothers about the course of the series. With the great reviews the show is getting so far and the buzz from Netflix viewers, this show looks like it’s poised for a multi-season run.

If I had to guess, I would say, ultimately, Netflix will renew Stranger Things for a second season. We know the Duffer brothers are up-and-coming stars in the TV and film industry, and Netflix wants to capitalize on their investment. Let the creators tell the story they want to tell and finish the story they want to finish it.

As mentioned above, the Duffer bros have a specific plan in place for a second season already. Based on reviews from those who have seen the full first season, there is a setup at the end of the season for a second season. That’s not exactly a spoiler because most shows do this unless its a final season.
