Over the last few years, Netflix has released a lot of good heist movies and shows. While most of the hits have been heist TV shows with Money Heist, Lupin, Berlin, and more, Netflix has had its fair share of heist movies perform very well. Netflix's biggest movie of all time is a heist movie.
If you're looking for that next caper or adventure, we have a list of the best heist movies for you to watch on Netflix right now. Let's get the list of the best Netflix heist movies started with the most recent addition, Lift starring Kevin Hart.
Lift

- Release Date: Jan. 12, 2024
- Director: F. Gary Gray
- Cast: Kevin Hart, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Vincent D'Onofrio, Úrsula Corberó, Billy Magnussen, Jacob Batalon, Jean Reno, Sam Worthington, and more
Lift premiered on Netflix in mid-January 2024, and it's pretty clearly the best and most popular new Netflix movie of the year so far. That'll probably change as we get into the year, but it's our top pick for those looking for a new heist movie to watch on Netflix.
F. Gary Gray, best known for directing Friday, The Italian Job, Straight Outta Compton, Men in Black: International, and so many more good movies, directed Lift, so you know it's good! The film has an incredible cast led by Kevin Hart and Gugu Mbatha-Raw, along with Netflix fan favorite, Vincent D'Onofrio, who starred as Kingpin in Marvel's Daredevil.
The film tells the story of a group who try steal hundreds of millions from a plane while it's in flight. A heist like this takes precision, flexibility, and courage.
Is Lift the best Netflix movie of all time? No, but it's not the worst! It's a high-stakes and high-octane thrill ride. If you're up for that, it's definitely worth your time!
Up next is my favorite of the movies on this list, Army of Thieves.
Army of Thieves

- Release Date: Oct. 29, 2021
- Director: Matthias Schweighöfer
- Cast: Matthias Schweighöfer, Nathalie Emmanuel, Ruby O. Fee, Stuart Martin, Guz Khan, and Jonathan Cohen
Army of Thieves is the prequel to Zack Snyder's Army of the Dead, and this heist movie is my favorite on this list. It's one of my all-time favorite Netflix original movies, too!
The film follows the origin story of sorts for bank teller Sebastian Schlencht-Wöhnert, played by Matthias Schweighöfer, who becomes Ludwig Dieter, the world's best expert at breaking into high-security safes and vaults, although he doesn't use this power for his own gain. When Sebastian is contacted by a group of thieves with a plan for an epic heist, Sebastian joins the team as their safecracker.
We first met Ludwig Dieter in Army of the Dead, which premiered on Netflix a few months earlier in the epic zombie heist in a post-apocalyptic Las Vegas casino. I loved Army of Thieves so much more than Army of the Dead, which is also on this list. It's a shame more people didn't enjoy Army of Thieves more. It's such a good movie!
Good news, though! There's another Army of the Dead movie in the works on Netflix, and we're really hoping these characters will return!
Up next is the action heist with an incredible cast, Triple Frontier.
Triple Frontier
- Release Date: March 6, 2019
- Director: J. C. Chandor
- Cast: Ben Affleck, Oscar Isaac, Charlie Hunnam, Garrett Hedlund, and Pedro Pascal
Triple Frontier is one of the first Netflix original heist movies. It marks a notable investment from Netflix into the action movie space, and with a cast like Triple Frontier has, it must have been quite the investment!
Triple Frontier leans a little harder into the military aspect of heist movies. This is not a movie about a team pulling off an art heist or robbing a bank. No, this is the story of a team of special ops members who retired from the US military and they reunite to take down and rob the leader of a criminal organization. It's a very action-heavy movie, especially compared to some of the other heist movies on the list.
Overall, Triple Frontier is not one of the best Netflix movies of all time. There's a lot left to be desired in terms of character development, but as a heist movie with high stakes, Triple Frontier does work well. It's definitely worth checking out if you haven't seen it simply for its cast, action sequences, and heist elements. Oh, and it sounds like Triple Frontier 2 might be in the works, too, according to Charlie Hunnam's interview with The Mary Sue.
Up next is the most popular Netflix movie of all time, Red Notice!
Red Notice

- Release Date: Nov. 5, 2021
- Director: Rawson Marshall Thurber
- Cast: Dwayne Johnson, Ryan Reynolds, Gal Gadot, Ritu Arya, Chris Diamantopoulos, and more
We can't make a list of the best heist movies on Netflix without including the most popular Netflix movie of all time, Red Notice. The hit action-comedy premiered on Netflix in the fall of 2021, and it was a mega-hit for the streaming network. Netflix quickly ordered two more sequels for Red Notice, so there will be at least three movies in this series when it's all done and dusted. Unfortunately, it's been over two years, and we still don't know when Red Notice 2 is coming to Netflix.
If you haven't seen Red Notice yet, you have plenty of time to check it out. The film has an incredible cast led by Ryan Reynolds, Gal Gadot, and Dwayne Johnson. It tells the story of art thief and conman Nolan Booth, played by Reynolds, and FBI agent, John Hartley, played by Johnson, who begin working together to take down the biggest and best thief in the world, The Bishop, played by Gadot, as they try to find Cleopatra's Eggs for a huge score.
Overall, Red Notice isn't one of Netflix's best movies. It's very popular, of course, and features some great action sequences and twists and turns. But, the story does leave a little to be desired. Luckily, the film has three of the most successful and charismatic movie stars to help.
Stay tuned for more news about Red Notice 2!
Army of the Dead

- Release Date: May 14, 2021
- Director: Zack Snyder
- Cast: Dave Bautista, Ella Purnell, Omari Hardwick, Ana de la Reguera, Theo Rossi, Matthias Schweighöfer, Nora Arnezeder, Hiroyuki Sanada, Tig Notaro, Raúl Castillo, Huma Qureshi, Garret Dillahunt, and more
Army of the Dead was one of the most highly anticipated Netflix new releases when it premiered in the spring of 2021. It didn't quite live up to the hype in terms of viewership, but it's quite a good zombie and heist movie all rolled into one.
Following a zombie apocalypse that effectively destroys Las Vegas, the city is left to the undead. A former casino owner asks Scott Ward, a mercenary, played by Dave Bautista, to venture into the city and retrieve $200 million from a safe in his casino before the military blows up the city with a nuclear bomb. It's a race against the clock and the zombies to find the safe, crack it, and make it out alive.
As mentioned, there is at least one more Army of the Dead movie in the works at Netflix. It's called Planet of the Dead, but we don't know a lot of information about it just yet. Netflix may even continue to build out this franchise with even more movies. We'll just have to wait and see how the next movie goes!
That's the list of the best Netflix heist movies we've seen so far. We'll share more heist movies when they're added to Netflix.
