One of the biggest additions to Netflix in 2017 is the Netflix Original series based on Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events children’s books. The first season contains eight episodes and covers the first four of the 13 books in the series. We think there will be three seasons in total with season 2 covering five books over 10 episodes and the third season will cover the four remaining books over eight episodes.

The first season covers the Baudelaire orphans, Violet, Klaus and Sunny who find out their parents died in a mysterious fire and are being handed over to a distant relative Count Olaf who wants to get his evil hands on the kids inheritance. He will do anything, no matter how evil, including murder, to get that significant fortune and dons a number of disguises in an effort to trick the kids and unsuspecting adults. The Baudelaires are far too smart to fall for Count Olaf’s antics, but the adults are completely oblivious.

There are some dark themes, so it may not be for kids of all ages, so parental discretion is advised, but kids at least 8 years old should enjoy this witty and imaginative new series.
