The Crown tells the story of the rise to power of Queen Elizabeth II in the middle of the 20th century. Winston Churchill is still the Prime Minister and must wrestle with the fact that this young woman is suddenly about to be the most powerful person in the country and one of the most powerful person in the world.

Her father King George IV arranges for her to be wed and we see the lavish royal wedding in the pilot episode that jammed in a lot of important details in an hour. We see Elizabeth and Philip have children, so we see a young Charles before he’d grow up to marry Diana and have a family of their own.

Think of this as a prequel to The Queen with Helen Mirren as we see the Queen evolve from a young mother and wife to a grandmother by the time the show gets to season 6. Before we project who may be added to the cast in future seasons, Claire Foy is an absolute star in The Crown and that’s one of the main reasons why you can’t miss this show.
