13. American Horror Story

Release Year: 2011

Creator:  Brad Falchuk, Ryan Murphy

Starring: Jessica Lange, Connie Britton, Sarah Paulson, Dylan McDermott, Evan Peters, Taissa Farmiga, Kathy Bates, Emma Roberts, Angela Bassett, Denis O’Hare, Michael Chiklis

This anthology series captivated audiences in the first season set inside a haunted house and hasn’t let up in the following seasons that have been set in an insane asylum, witch coven, a freak show, crazy hotel and a not-so innocent neighborhood.

This creative approach at a series was met with some hesitation from me initially when I watched the first season and as I became addicted to the first season’s plot, I wish there would be more from the characters. Alas, that doesn’t happen in an anthology series, of course, but what is neat is the show doesn’t feel the need to stretch out storylines and can hit the viewer with great material each week.

If you’re looking for a show to watch late at night and give yourself a good scare or at least feel a little squirmy or hesitant to turn the lights out at night, AHS is the show for you.
