The Netflix Original series is one of the best shows to come out in 2017. The series is set in the late 1970s and sees a pair of FBI agents tap into the psychology of criminal science. Specifically, the two agents, holden Ford and Bill Tench go to the murderers and rapists that are locked up across the country and interview them to try to tap into their psyche to learn what makes serial killers tick. The hope is this science will then be able to stop killers before they become serial killers.
It was so fascinating to see the real-life killers presented on the screen and how the agents would ingratiate themselves with them in order to get them to let their guard down so they can speak without hesitation and give the agents their full attention and the information they need. It certainly wasn’t easy and the agents get resistance from the top down all throughout this experimental strategy that begins shortly after the events of Charles Manson and the Son of Sam killing sprees.
While the subject matter and dialogue gets very heavy at times, outside of a scene in the opening moments of the first episode, there aren’t many visually-unsettling images or gore that would turn viewers away.
