13 Reasons Why is a powerful teen drama that confronts issues of bullying, sexual assault and suicide. The show begins with the fallout from the suicide of Hannah Baker. She left behind a series of cassette tapes she recorded that tells the reasons why she took her life.

The series follows Hannah’s classmates as they come to grips with their role in their friend/classmate taking her own life. The tapes exchange hands between the people named on the tapes as a reason for her suicide. The first episode sees Clay Jensen get the tapes. He’s freaking out, naturally, at the tapes and has a difficult time listening to them in their entirety, but he knows he has to.

Clay worked with Hannah and had a crush on her so he doesn’t know what he did that made him appear on these tapes. But as he listens to the tapes he hears the terrible things his classmates did that attributed to Hannah’s decision. Each episode reveals a little more about the mystery and it’s incredibly addicting to watch.

Season 2 picked up a few months after Hannah’s death and a trial underway with her parents suind the school for their negligence.
