19. The Magi Series

Like many anime series, including Naruto and Naruto: Shippuden, the Magi series has idiosyncratic names for its different seasons. For absolute clarity, Labyrinth of Magic and Kingdom of Magic should be viewed in that order. Adventure of Sinbad is actually a prequel series which came out several years after the first two, so you could conceivably start there as well.

(You’ll also note the plethora of language options for Adventure of Sinbad. It’s licensed directly to Netflix.)

That all being said, the Magi series looks to the Middle East for inspiration, with protagonists named Aladdin and Alibaba and djinn all inhabiting the same magical world. The series is classified as shonen, meaning it’s aimed at young men. (Shonen Jump might be a familiar name to you, as Viz still regularly publishes translated versions of the manga magazine. It’s the same idea.) That’s why these series earn “raunchy” classifications on Netflix — parents be warned.

However, the humor can also be a strong point, as are the themes and general mythology of the show, per Netflix reviewers.
