Bleach is a massive commitment, but it’s also one of the biggest anime series of the 2000’s, right up there with Naruto and One Piece. (Technically, One Piece, which is still running, is also quietly one of the biggest anime of this decade.)

Anyway, Bleach follows a young man by the name of Ichigo Kurasaki, who starts the series out with the ability to see ghosts. He makes a new friend, Rukia, and everything changes. It turns out that Rukia is a Soul Reaper, and Ichigo might have some talents for the job aside from being able to actually see spirits even as a human.

Although Netflix has 3 seasons totaling to 63 episodes, there are actually 366 episodes of the series available. That’s still shorter than Naruto, for those keeping score at home. Fortunately, Netflix also has two of the movies available as well.

Even though it’s so long, it’s one of the best ways to sink into anime. Its strengths lie in its mythology, action scenes, and humor. Just be aware of what you’re getting into before you get into it, and be ready to use other series as palate cleansers.
