11. Hunter x Hunter

Seasons available: 5

Rating: NR

Languages: Japanese with English and Spanish subtitles

This is the 2011 version of Hunter x Hunter; a previous series ran earlier. The basic plot goes something like this: young Gon wants to become a Hunter, like his father. To do so, he’ll need to pass the exams, and he’ll then go after his father. If this plot sounds very similar, well, let’s just say that he wants to be the very best, like no one ever was.

Indeed, it’s commonly noted on review sites that Hunter x Hunter has a similar feel and themes to shows like Pokémon and Naruto, since they’re all shonen series that emphasize getting stronger. Of course, there’s some development for Gon throughout the five seasons available on Netflix, though many reviewers agree that the fifth season is not the greatest ever.

Additionally, this isn’t the complete series. Sites like Crunchyroll list an additional 48 episodes from this series, encompassing the end of the series. With that, the show wrapped up, and it appears that the manga might be ending soon as well since it’s been put on indefinite hiatus once again.

Although there’s no rating available, Hunter x Hunter is one of the more kid-friendly anime not named Pokémon or Digimon on Netflix, so it might be a good thing to watch with kids who don’t mind a little monster-hunting action. It’s not a bad idea to watch a bit ahead, though, just in case.
