The Netflix series is based on the book series, The Saxon Stories, by Bernard Cornwall. There are a bunch of books in the series, so if you need something to do while you wait for the next season of The Last Kingdom, you should watch it now!

Set in the 9th and 10th Centuries, the series follows Uhtred, played by Alexander Dreymon, a man who was raised by the Danes but was born a Saxon. With no allegiance to either side, Uhtred tries to find his place in the ever-changing world.

If you’re a fan of Game of Thrones or other shows like that, you need to watch The Last Kingdom. There’s not much fantasy, necessarily, but it has all the violence, big battles, and politics a viewer could want in a show.

The Last Kingdom came back for a fifth and final season on March 9, 2022.
