2. Jerry Before Seinfeld

Before Jerry Seinfeld was the billionaire famous for the show that bore his last name, he was an aspiring comedian working for hamburgers in New York City and doing whatever he could to harness his craft to do this for a living.

Jerry Before Seinfeld is the first of two specials that the comedian will deliver for Netflix as part of a $100 million deal that also includes the entire catalog of Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee. It was a stand-up special performed at the Comic Strip in New York City where Seinfeld used to perform in front of much smaller crowds and for no money. But it was what he wanted to do and that’s the venue that helped make him into the comedian he is today.

This was a comedy special that also had the feel of a documentary as Seinfeld shared his experiences with his family growing up and the stoop where he’d eat in between sets, hoping for his big break. He had ledger notes of every single joke he’s written since 1975 too, which is pretty mind-boggling if you really think about it.
