14. Judd Apatow: The Return

The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Knocked Up, This Is 40, Funny People, Trainwreck, Girls, Love, Freaks and Geeks, Undeclared, and the list goes on and on for the movies and shows written by produced and/or directed by Judd Apatow. He’s one of the funniest filmmakers of his generation but now Apatow is stepping back in front of the camera as he makes his return as a stand-up comedian.

Apatow began his career as a stand-up comic before his career path took him off the stage and behind the camera, but he makes his triumphant return in the appropriately titled Netflix special The Return, which premiered on Dec. 12, 2017.

The special was as hilarious as you would expect from a person with his long list of credits. If you follow Apatow on Twitter, you know you’re going to get a little political commentary about the current state of American politics. But what I loved most about the special was his stories about his two young daughters. It’s the type of stuff that are going to be completely embarrassing for them. But Apatow didn’t pull any punches because he made sure to make fun of himself more than anyone else. His story sharing his experiences when he threw out the first pitch at a Mets game was downright hilarious and the photo he puts up on the screen of his attempt was priceless and worthy of many belly-laughs.

Hopefully, we’ll get Apatow to step foot on a stage again because as great of a filmmaker he is, he shows he’s still got it when it comes to stand-up.
