27. Bo Burnham: Make Happy

If you’re new to the comedy stylings of 25-year-old former YouTube sensation Bo Burnham, you’re going to get something you may not totally be prepared for. Burnham isn’t a typical stand-up comedian who walks across the stage for an hour moving from one joke to the next.

Going to see Burnham perform stand-up is more like going to a concert because he uses his music and singing as a means to get his stories out. Make Happy is his fourth overall stand-up special and the second on Netflix, joining 2013’s what. and this one is easily my favorite from him.

The opening bit where he’s in a clown outfit to the ending song all meshed so well together. In the middle, Burnham had me dying with his song about the struggles of the straight white male and later with his spot on take about stadium country music and how it’s pandering to its audience by pretending to be something it’s not.
