41. Chelsea Peretti: One of the Greats
You’ve seen Chelsea Peretti in Fox’s Brooklyn Nine-Nine and her recurring role as Farley on the Kroll Show on Comedy Central with Nick Kroll, but now she gets the spotlight all to herself in this Netflix special.
Her sarcasm is implemented with such skill as if you couldn’t tell by the title of her special, and after years as a writer and performer, she finally was able to show to the audience and the rest of the comedy world that she has what it takes to be a solo performer.
She has an over-the-top opening before she gets to the stage to set the tone for her set and during the set, there are hilarious cutaways to the audience, including a couple making out in their seats, dogs fixated on her performance and even one dude using a leaf blower.
Yeah, it’s way out from left field the first time it happens, but it ended up working with each new weird side-gag. It was perfectly awkward. Probably about as awkward as guys in the audience felt when Peretti gets rolling about how men would never shut up if they got a period.
She returned the favor when she jokes about how awkward it is for female comics to talk about their sexual exploits compared to her male counterparts. And the visual gestures and motions that accompany her are spot-on.
