2. Braveheart

Release Year: 1995

Director: Mel Gibson

Starring: Mel Gibson, Sophie Marceau, Patrick McGoohan

A winner of five Academy Awards, Braveheart is one of the biggest critical successes on Netflix. The movie won Best Picture and Mel Gibson won Best Director in 1996. At the time, Mel Gibson was one of the biggest movie stars but he stepped behind the camera for one of the best movies of all time for this classic war movie.

After his bride is executed for striking an English soldier who tried to sexually assault her, William Wallace begins a revolution against King Edward of England that changed the world. The battle scenes make this a truly exceptional movie and Gibson’s impassioned speeches throughout the movie, including the climax at the end, is enough to give viewers goosebumps.
