3. E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial

Release year: 1982

Director: Steven Spielberg

Starring: Dee Wallace, Peter Coyote, Henry Thomas, Robert MacNaughton, Drew Barrymore

This is a movie that every person on the planet needs to see at least once. The movie broke the box office record held by Star Wars and stood for 11 years until Jurassic Park broke the record. It’s a classic tale of friendship and I dare you not to get a little misty-eyed while watching.

The movie was released in 1982 but it still holds up today, more than three decades later. Little Elliott (Thomas) finds a stranded alien nicknamed E.T. and brings it to his home to think of a way to bring him home.

Elliott hides E.T. from his mom and later the government. The boy and the alien share a unique psychic bond with Elliott feeling things E.T. feels. It’s played out in a hilarious scene with Elliott at school and E.T. drinking beer at the family home.

But things take a turn for the worse when both their health begin to decline and the government closing in on the boy and his alien. Will Eliott has to get E.T. home to his people before it’s too late?
