This is, perhaps, one of the few films that have been inspired by the classic courtroom procedural 12 Angry Men. However, the premise that it displays – who do you save when your life is on the line? – is one that is as old as time.

The film made its premiere at the Seattle International Film Festival, and it’s received mostly positive reviews since its release. It doesn’t use as many special effects as your typical sci-fi thriller would, and that – perhaps – is its greatest strength: this leaves the focus on the story, not on the CGI. And the ending holds, even more, surprises, especially considering that the ultimate “decider” of everyone’s fate isn’t whom everyone believes should be making the final decision. In fact, it’s someone who’s never even voted before!

And, like any good sci-fi film, the ending has a supernatural element to it (though most of the film takes place in a dystopian Los Angeles). The question dares to ask the stars – and the audience – the following questions: who would you kill – and who would you save – to save yourself and the lives of your loved ones? You’d be surprised by the basis people draw their lines of allegiance…or maybe you wouldn’t.
