Release Year: 2014

Director: Jennifer Kent

Starring: Essie Davis, Noah Wiseman, Daniel Henshall

Amelia was on her way to the hospital to give birth when her husband driving the car is involved in an accident that takes his life. Amelia if forced to raise a son on her own as a depressed widow.

By the time Amelia’s son Samuel is six years old, he begins to have troubles at school and at home. Samuel begins to fear an imaginary creature is after him. Around the same time, Amelia finds a pop-up book in Samuel’s room detailing a story about Mr. Babadook, an evil entity that torments its victims after reading the book.

The struggle for Amelia to overcome her husband’s passing to save her own son is compelling and increases the level of evil in the film. The Babadook is another IFC Films diamond in the rough.
