Now that it’s officially October, all the streaming services are starting to roll out their horror content for Halloween, and that includes a new Pet Sematary movie, inspired by the classic 1983 novel by Stephen King. Pet Sematary: Bloodlines hits streaming on Friday, October 6, but sadly for Netflix subscribers, it won’t be on the streaming platform. You’ll need to head over to Paramount+ if you want to watch this one.

Bloodlines introduces director Lindsey Anderson Beer, who directs a script she co-wrote with Jeff Buhler. Its a prequel film to the 2019 movie starring Jason Clarke and John Lithgow. With so many movies getting reboots and sequels, it can all be a little confusing to keep tabs on everything. You’d be forgiven for thinking Bloodlines is a direct sequel to the 1989 movie, similar to what Blumhouse has done with Halloween and The Exorcist.

The good thing is, since it is a prequel, you don’t need to have seen any of the other Pet Sematary movies to watch this one and know what’s going on. Bloodlines is set in the small town of Ludlow, Maine in 1969. It centers on Jud Crandall (played by Katey Sagal and Jack White’s son, Jackson White) and his friends, who stumble upon an ancient evil kept secret by Ludlow residents. Based on the trailer, it looks like that “evil” takes possession of Jud’s friend Timmy (played by Painkiller‘s Jack Mulhern).

Bloodlines also stars Natalie Alyn Lind (sister of Chucky star Alyvia Alyn Lind and daughter of Barbara Alyn Woods—she also starred in Big Sky and The Gifted), David Duchovny, Pam Grier, Samantha Mathis, and Forrest Goodluck (How to Blow Up a Pipeline).

Movies like Pet Sematary: Bloodlines on Netflix

Even though the new Pet Sematary movie isn’t on Netflix, there are other King adaptations available, such as 1922, In the Tall Grass, and Gerald’s Game. Additionally, film star Jack Mulhern is a series regular in two Netflix series: Painkiller and The Society, so if you’re a fan of his, be sure to check out his other work!

Where to stream all of the Pet Sematary movies

There are currently a total of four Pet Sematary movies, the original 1989 movie, a sequel to that one, the 2019 adaptation, and now Pet Sematary: Bloodlines. None of them are on Netflix, but here’s where you can watch each one.

  • Pet Sematary (1989) – Max
  • Pet Sematary Two – Max
  • Pet Sematary (2019) – Paramount+
  • Pet Sematary: Bloodlines – Paramount+
