We knew the wait for All American season 6 was going to be a long one, but we never would have guessed just how long the break would end up being.

To quickly recap, The CW’s original plan was to debut a new season of All American this fall as part of its 2023-24 fall lineup. Unfortunately, production on season 6 was unable to begin in time for the show to return in the fall as a result of the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes leading The CW to push the show’s return to 2024.

The good news is that the WGA has reached a new deal with the studio which has allowed The CW to kick off projection on its scripted originals including All American. The bad news is that All American season 6 isn’t expected to arrive on The CW until April 2024. That’s right, I said April.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, The CW is eyeing an April return for All American, All American: Homecoming, and Walker. The current plan seems to be for the shows to kick off in April and run into the summer, which is eerily similar to how the network approached its schedule after the pandemic delayed the return of shows.

While April seems more than reasonable, it’s a disappointing update due to the fact that many predicted the show would arrive as early as February. Instead, it seems The CW is going to look for a spring launch meaning nearly a year will have passed between seasons when the show finally returns in April 2024.

All American season 6 is going to be the show’s shortest season yet

Not only will fans have to wait longer than they might have expected for season 6, but All American‘s sixth season is going to be the shortest season of The CW’s hit series yet. Past seasons have consisted of 16-20 episodes, however, the show’s upcoming sixth season is expected to only consist of 13 episodes.

This isn’t something The CW likely planned for when season 6 was ordered and is the direct result of the 2023 WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. All American was supposed to return in the fall and the plan seemed to be for season 6 to once again be either 16 or 20 episodes long.

However, since production has been delayed, The CW will have to settle for a shorter season in order to bring the show back in the earlier part of the year rather than delaying the season 6 premiere any more than it needs to.

It might be a long time before All American season 6 arrives on Netflix

Considering The CW is not expected to premiere All American season 6 until April 2024, fans who enjoy watching the series on Netflix are in for an even longer wait. In fact, there is a chance we might not see new episodes of All American streaming on Netflix until July 2024 at the absolute earliest.

New seasons of All American arrive on Netflix eight days after the season finales air on The CW which means season 6 won’t land on Netflix until after the full season has aired on Netflix. With season 6 expected to premiere in April and consist of 13 episodes, this means there is a strong chance the season will arrive sometime in July so long as the season premieres in early April and does not include many breaks in the schedule.

The good news is that fans can always rewatch past seasons while they wait as all five current seasons of All American are available to stream on Netflix.
