Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story

It’s true crime season for Netflix, as the streamer has released a handful of shows based on true stories. One of these includes Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story starring American Horror Story‘s Evan Peters as the notorious American serial killer. The 10-episode series was created by Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan and follows the life of serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer, chronicling his childhood, his murders, his relationships, his prison sentence, and his death.

The series features multiple talented actors beyond just Peters, with the cast also including Niecy Nash, Richard Jenkins, Molly Ringwald, Penelope Ann Miller, and more.

Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story was an instant hit for Netflix, and remains close to the number one spot in the streamer’s overall Top 10 shows. The series is now the third most-watched English-language show on Netflix, just behind Stranger Things season 4 and Wednesday.

But despite the show’s popularity and Peters’ fantastic performance, Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story isn’t without controversy.

Some of the family members of Dahmer’s real-life victims have spoken out against the Netflix show, saying they were not given a heads-up that it was being made and that it retraumatized them. Something to keep in mind if you decide to watch the series, which we’ve added as a “skip,” due to the controversy and because, honestly, it’s just not very good.
