Ana de Armas is a talented, Academy Award and Golden Globe Award-nominated Cuban actress who has been acting in the industry since 2006 when she landed her first significant role in a Cuban romance called Una rosa de Francia.

Once she moved to Los Angeles, De Armas started to grow in prominence for her work in movies like Knock Knock and then later, with her breakout role in Blade Runner 2049 and Knives Out. It was her work in Knives Out that really catapulted her into stardom. Her work in the film earned her a Golden Globe nomination and later she starred in the controversial film Blonde.

Despite not doing well with critics, De Armas’ work as starlet Marilyn Monroe did earn her acclaim and an Academy Award nomination. For those who can’t get enough of the actress’ work, you can watch several of her movies on Netflix right now. But which ones are worth watching and which should you skip?

Knives Out and Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery

WATCH! – Let me preface this by saying Knives Out is not on Netflix and Glass Onion doesn’t star Ana de Armas, I don’t mean to mislead you, dear reader, but it’s hard to include one of these movies without the other!

Even though De Armas has been acting since the early 2000s, her role as the Knives Out protagonist Marta was one of her breakout roles and helped boost her into the mainstream. And even though she’s not in Rian Johnson’s follow-up film Glass Onion, it is certainly worth watching. A third Knives Out film from Johnson will also debut on Netflix at some point in the next few years.

The Informer

WATCH! – Prior to her breakout part in Knives Out, many of De Armas’ roles were on the thinner side and The Informer is a good example of that. In movies like this and War Dogs, she was mostly relegated to the wife/girlfriend role. Here, she plays Joel Kinnaman’s wife, Sofia Koslow.

The Informer is a 2019 crime thriller film following a soldier (Kinnaman) on a cover assignment to take down a crime boss. It’s not the most groundbreaking thriller in the genre, but it’s serviceable and all of the actors do a great job, especially Kinnaman and the female lead, Rosamund Pike.

The Gray Man

SKIP!The Gray Man is one of Netflix’s biggest action movies, an action-thriller from Marvel vets Anthony and Joe Russo. Besides De Armas, the film also stars Chris Evans and Ryan Gosling, so the cast is worth watching for, but this also isn’t a movie that needs to be at the top of your watchlist. It’s just very…meh. The film follows a CIA asset on the run from assassins working for one of his former colleagues.

Blonde

WATCH! – Under any other circumstances I would recommend skipping Blonde. I actually kind of hate this movie. However, if you’re a diehard fan of Ana de Armas, it’s kind of a necessary evil. Her performance is the bright spot in this movie as she does do an excellent job in the leading role of Marilyn Monroe. Blonde is a controversial fictionalized biopic based on the novel of the same name by Joyce Carol Oates. De Armas received an Academy Award nomination for her work in this film.

War Dogs

SKIP! – War Dogs is a 2016 black comedy crime film starring Jonah Hill and Miles Teller. It’s another film where De Armas is relegated to the “girlfriend” role, but that’s not the only reason to skip it. War Dogs is super lazy and while its leads deliver decent performances, it’s just not a great movie. Luckily for you, it’s actually not on Netflix right now, so it’s easy to skip!

Sergio

WATCH!Sergio is a 2020 film following the UN diplomat Sérgio Vieira de Mello (Wagner Moura), who must fight for survival after a bomb blast. She plays Sérgio’s UN partner. Initially released at Sundance, Sergio is technically a Netflix Original after the streamer received distribution rights.

Knock Knock

SKIP! – This 2015 thriller was one of De Armas’ early notable roles and co-stars Keanu Reeves and Lorena Izzo. It’s a remake of the 1970s movie Death Game from director Eli Roth, which might give you an idea of what to expect. As a horror/thriller film though, Knock Knock leaves a lot to be desired.

As much as we love Keanu, his performance in this is pretty bad and the movie itself is just a hot mess. De Armas and Izzo play a pair of stranded young women with a sinister agenda in mind when they seek refuge with married man (Reeves).
